Our mission: Academic buoyancy

Lighthouse Learning Co. offers an extra layer of support for young people with their learning whether they are approaching GCSE's or A-Levels or about to make the transition to university.

School life can be full of ups and downs—and research shows that helping young people build the right mindset and skills can make all the difference. One important area of research is academic buoyancy, which focuses on how students cope with everyday academic setbacks like poor grades, difficult homework, or exam stress.

Rather than waiting until a student is in crisis, academic buoyancy is about helping them stay afloat through the normal challenges of school life. Researchers* have identified five key traits—known as the 5Cs—that can help students bounce back and keep moving forward:

Confidence – believing in their ability to succeed

Coordination – being organised and managing time well

Commitment – staying motivated, even when it’s tough

Composure – staying calm under pressure

Control – feeling in charge of their own learning

At Lighthouse Learning Co. our work to support students and their families is grounded in this research. Our aim is to work with students to master these skills step by step so they feel more confident, more capable, and better equipped to face whatever school throws their way.

We offer a range of supportive, research-informed services to help students thrive academically and emotionally.

Services include:

  • Learning consultations to identify strengths, challenges, and personalised strategies

  • One-to-one learning coach sessions focused on study skills, mindset, and motivation

  • Exam preparation booster sessions to build confidence and reduce stress before assessments

  • Uni Ready coaching to support the transition to university with independent learning skills and self-management tools

  • UCAS personal statement support to help craft clear, compelling applications

Each session is tailored to the learner, combining key principles rooted in educational psychology with practical, student-centered support.
