About me
Mission statement
I am Sarah McLaren, founder of Lighthouse Learning Co. Having taught in both state and private sectors for more than 20 years in the UK and overseas, I have extensive academic and pastoral experience supporting students to reach their full potential, both in and beyond the classroom.
Using my experience and expertise plus postgraduate certification in educational psychology, I aim to use evidence-based approaches to help young people build effective study habits, develop resilience, and grow in confidence.
Whether it's tackling study skills, managing motivation, or overcoming academic anxiety, I can offer tailored, compassionate support—backed by research and shaped by real-world experience.
I provide tailored support for students preparing for GCSEs and A-Levels, helping them build effective revision strategies, stay organised, and approach exams with confidence.
My aim is to work alongside parents offering clear, practical advice on how to best support their child’s learning journey at home so they can feel confident in how to best encourage and champion their child’s learning—every step of the way.
Through Lighthouse Learning Co., my mission is to equip young people with research-backed tools and strategies to help them achieve their personal best—academically and beyond.
I believe every young person deserves to feel proud of their learning journey. That’s why I focus on building positive self-esteem, encouraging a growth mindset, and helping students develop study skills that actually work.
.

In addition to my work with High School pupils, I also offer specific academic guidance for students preparing to make the transition to university study. My aim is to ensure they are equipped with the independent learning skills, time management techniques, and academic mindset needed to thrive in a more self-directed environment.
